translation is
a service that most Brazilians are unaware of and that generates many doubts,
both as far as documents need to be "sworn" and which
professionals are qualified to do this service.
Documents in a foreign language that will
be used in public agencies, educational institutions and other Brazilian
agencies need to be translated so that their content is officially recognized
in the country.
A power of attorney, for example, will only
be valid and may be registered in notary in Brazil if it is accompanied by a translation that certifies

But what is a sworn translation?
In Brazil, the translations are
governed by Federal Decree No. 13,609 of October 21, 1943. The decree
established the existence of sworn translators, professionals who need to
go through a public tender to obtain public faith .
The'public
faith'means that the acts of the public
translator are considered trustworthy; it is this characteristic that
causes translations to be accepted in all organs public
authorities.
To become a sworn translator,in
addition to passing the public tender held by the Commercial Board, the
translator also needs to be a born Brazilian or naturalized and it is worth
remembering that the position is lifetime.
Unlike other public tenders, the position
of sworn translator is not a position that receives salary from public
authorities. Your income is received exclusively for your office as a
translator. That is, official translators receive according to the translations they perform. In
addition, the values of the translation are tabulated by the Commercial Board of
each state and the contests are held by state.
When performing a translation,these
professionals certify to public agencies that that document was faithfully
translated into Portuguese. Therefore, the sworn translation is called a
"public translation certificate".
Other countries, such as Spain, also have sworn translators. Countries such as the United States and
Australia use certified translators in their own bodies such as ATA and NAATI,
which certify the quality of the professional.

sworn translator?
In general, personal documents, academics,
contracts and power of attorneys, documents that need to be registered in a
registry office or attached to a court case must be certified by a sworn translator .
